How to improve score in JEE mock tests?

One of the most import parts in JEE preparation is attempting mock tests. They simulate the exact environment as in the examination hall and help us mentally prepare for the exam beforehand. But many students tend to ignore mock exams or do not take advantage of them to the fullest and as a result, under perform in the mock exam as well as in the real exam.
Student tends to leave the main part which is to analyse the paper and learn from their mistakes.

These are some of the steps I used to follow which showed me promising results and hence sharing with you all via this blog

  • Go through solutions
Indeed the most basic step to follow. After each mock test, see the correct solutions of the questions you did incorrectly or did them with some lengthy or more time-consuming way.

  • Analyze your mistakes
These buzz words are advised by everyone, but the main problem is that students do not understand how to apply this in practice. What I used to do is once go over the whole question paper and categorize all incorrect questions in two fields. First the silly mistakes and second the conceptual mistakes. This categorization will help you find the exact place where you are lagging and help you to fix it.
Now see if there is a lot of silly mistakes then take appropriate steps to reduce it. One of them could be practicing more questions to ensure that you do not make a silly mistake again.

  • Categorize mistakes according to subtopics
Now categorize all the conceptual mistakes according to the subtopic they belong to.
Usually, the case is we are not clear with only a few subtopics in a big chapter, but after making mistakes in few of the questions of the chapter in the exam, we think that whole chapter needs to be reread and start to do the same. This method is inefficient and wastes a lot of time. Instead of this, we need to identify the subtopic in which we are not clear and need to work on that.
So to find those subtopics, we do this classification and then revise that subtopic to make sure you don’t make a mistake again in that concept.

  • Recall the discomforts faced while the examination
Many time it is the case that we have our meal time or sleep time between the exam time and our biological clock is trained accordingly, and this adversely affects our performance in exams.
So after the exam, try to recall if in between the exam there was a time where you were really hungry or sleeps, or you were not able to focus for a long stretch which has affected your solving ability.
Accordingly, train your biological clock or take actions so that the same problem does not bother you next time.

Accuracy
Accuracy is an important point to ponder upon and especially in exams like JEE where you have negative making.
There is no concept of negative marking in CBSE. Hence student has a habit of attempting each question and also trying the problems which they are not sure of, but this is not the case in JEE or exams with negative making, here accuracy matters a lot which student usually ignore and end up performing poorly.
Therefore aspirants should keep a tight check on their accuracy and mock test are one of the best places to keep a check on it.

To calculate your accuracy –
Accuracy=no of incorrect question/questions attempted

As advised by my teacher, try to keep this figure below 0.1.These steps may sound daunting and time-consuming at first they will prove to be beneficial in the long run. As we do it in machine learning, take the current error and give it back to the system to improve it, the same concept applies here.
Making mistakes is not wrong but repetitively committing the same errors is foolishness.
These steps will help you find and troubleshoot the reasons which are stopping you from achieving the marks you genuinely deserve.
